Administration on Developmental Disabilities Technical Assistance Institute Youth Information, Training and Resource Centers Grantees Technical Assistance Institute August 9 - 11, 2006 Ritz Carlton, Washington, DC Transportation Panel Questions Our group of panelist was given the following thought-provoking questions below to think about and guide them in their talk. Please also think each one as it relates to yourself and your own project and feel free to join us in the discussion. 1. Tell us a little bit about the current transportation system where you live: Is the area considered rural, urban, suburban? Is there a mass transit system? 2. If you are a self advocate navigating the system for yourself, tell us about getting to and from your desired destinations. What have been some of the challenges in arranging transit for yourself or helping others from your projects arrange their own transit? 3. If you are a project director, tell us how your participants have been able to get to and from their desired location? 4. Have the majority of participants been able to navigate the system alone or does someone from the center usually arrange transit for them? 5. Has anyone had success in networking/collaborating with another agency with an accessible van or bus (for example the Area Agency on Aging of the local ARC) to get people to and from project events? Please tell us how you went about establishing such connections. 6. Have parents been of much assistance to get people to and from project events? 7. Where do you hold events? e.g. at the local public schools, centers for independent living, the building where the youth information center is housed? 8. What are the best (or most popular) places to hold events? Administration on Developmental Disabilities Technical Assistance Institute ?? ?? ?? ?? 1
