Welcome!

The Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) 2006 Technical Assistance Institute was held at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., August 9 – 11, 2006. ADD welcomed staff, directors, co-directors, youth grantees, and emerging leaders to the event.

The theme for the institute was Empowered Youth: Difference in Action! To represent this theme, we invited youth or emerging leaders to design and submit artwork for the logo, which is shown at the top of this page.

Learning Objectives

The information presented at the 2006 institute enabled participants to:

  1. Continue to conduct outreach, serving unserved and underserved youth with disabilities across the United States.

  2. Increase the overall success rate of youth (ages 13-17) and emerging leaders (ages 18-30) with developmental disabilities in various functions of life including self advocacy, independent living, employment, higher education, access to healthcare, civil rights and development of social and leadership skills.

  3. Instruct program grantees, personnel, and directors and co-directors about the various models and current best practices, and share other important instruction about ensuring full, accessible participation of youth in all programs.

  4. Address a variety of technical assistance needs in following topical areas:
  • Youth and Emerging Leaders

  • Outreach and Diversity

  • Collaboration and Partnership

  • Evaluation, Reporting and Resources

  • Web Development and Technology

  • Educating Other Partners.
